Tooth whitening is often described as the simplest cosmetic treatment that can be undertaken to make you look 10 years younger!
At Longborough we offer an effective and safe tooth whitening treatment which can be performed in the practice by your dentist, together with a follow-up home kit which you can the administer yourself over the next several weeks.
The treatment is simple and effective, lightening the colour of your teeth to improve your appearance and give you a whiter, brighter smile.
All whitening treatment starts with moulds being taken of your teeth so that customised whitening trays can be produced to fit comfortably and securely. Then all you need to do is wear these at home with a whitening gel for a specified length of time each day. Your dentist will monitor your progress and be available to answer any questions you may have. They will help you to achieve the shade of white that suits you and normally this takes around 4 weeks.
If you want a faster result we can whiten your teeth in the surgery under a whitening lamp before you carry out a shorter follow up home whitening course. You'll be in the dental chair for about an hour and then the follow up you carry out at home enhances and stabilises your new colour and makes sure it does not fade.
Professional home whitening treatment is a superior alternative to kits that can be bought over-the-counter because the mouth trays are designed to be a perfect fit, allowing the active gel to work more effectively. The whitening agent is also stronger and offers enhanced lightening power.
We recommend you use professional home whitening kits from us as they are more effective and allow us to keep a close eye on your teeth helping to avoid side effects such as gum irritation and tooth sensitivity.
It is important to remember that whilst your teeth will whiten beautifully with these techniques, any existing dental work such as crowns and fillings (even white ones) will not change colour during the whitening process. This may mean utilising whitening techniques in combination with other procedures to create the best cosmetic outcome. We will always assess this for you at your consultation and give you all the advice you need to achieve the best smile for you.
